About CAPIGI

CAPIGI is the network for geo-information experts active in agriculture. The Community on Agricultural Performance Innovation and Geo-Information (CAPIGI) has a two-yearly conference which brings together governments, industry, research and farmers to discuss the impact of geo-information on agricultural performance. CAPIGI presents a state-of-the-art overview on innovations and research in geo-information sciences. These emerging technologies get illustrated with practice experiences in agricultural policy implementation.

Performance Agriculture

Farmers, ag-industry, scientists and policy makers are all striving for a better performance in agriculture on the sustainability triangle: People-Planet-Profit. The focus is shifting from maximising production to effective productivity including ecosystem services and resource quality. Food chain partners are demanding transparancy and better quality, governments apply rules to protect the environment, consumers want healthy products and safe production methods: farming is not easy. The advert of new technologies create a potential for a new type of agriculture: Performance Agriculture. An agriculture in which the toolkit of farmers is extended with geospatial technologies, ICT, data and models to measure, monitor and act on performance.

Spatial data and geo-information are part of modern agriculture in many ways and many applications have found their way in the agri business. The exchange and (re)use of spatial data has become more evident. A pressing question in particular to business, is how all these data are brought to value. Ecosystem services and carbon credits provide incentives for new business models to reward a better performance. After exploring many aspects of spatial data applications in the past decades it is now the challenge to bring the use of spatial data to the next level. CAPIGI 2018 is discussing these challenges, scientific advances, policy related issues and business opportunities.

CAPIGI 2018 - Extended

Geo-Hackathon

CAPIGI will be extended with a geo-hackathon where talented teams will compete on a challenge to use the vast amount of (open) data including satellite data, soil data, crop data and other relevant registries to solve a real life problem.

Drones Demonstration Day

Building on the success of the previous CAPIGI, we will extend the conference with a Drones Demonstration Day. Delegates can join the short coach ride to a nearby farm to enjoy the latest advancements in drones and related smart farming solutions. A great opportunity to get to speed on what's hot and what's not.
